Following the historic passage of The Providing Urgent Maternal Protections (“PUMP”) for Nursing Mothers Act and the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, WorkLife Law attorneys and advocates are working hard to ensure these new protections actually support the people who so urgently need them. For us, this means educating workers about their rights and supporting their self-advocacy. In partnership with A Better Balance, WorkLife Law created an updated English and Spanish guide for breastfeeding, chestfeeding, and pumping workers who are advocating for their lactation-health needs at work.
Our national resource “Talking to Your Boss About Your Pump” gives employees information about their legal rights along with practical tips for talking to their employer about lactation and work, and is also available in Spanish. Of course, this is only the first step in making sure workers are well informed. WorkLife Law and A Better Balance are partnering to release updated state-specific guides in coming months for pregnant, postpartum, and lactating workers. And attorneys on WorkLife Law’s free legal helpline are standing by to help workers who need additional assistance.
