Roughly 41 million Americans are caretakers for adults. Our report with the AARP Public Policy Institute, Caring Locally for Caregivers: How State and Local Laws Protect Family Caregivers from Discrimination at Work, outlines laws throughout the U.S. that protect caregivers from workplace discrimination. While federal laws only provide limited protections for caregivers of adult family members, less well known state and local laws provide strong protections for many of these workers. This report explains the various laws, and what policymakers can do to ensure family caregivers are protected from workplace discrimination.
