The Center for WorkLife Law is honored to have our free legal helpline, and Co-Director Jessica Lee, spotlighted in a new book by Brigid Schulte, award-winning journalist and New York Times bestselling author. “Over Work: Transforming the Daily Grind in the Quest for a Better Life,” explores why America’s way of work isn’t working and offers solutions to make it better. We’re thrilled that Co-Director Lee is featured so prominently as a changemaker in shifting the American workplace to be more humane.

In introducing the role Lee plays in fighting for the rights of family caregivers, Schulte writes,

“Lee uses the legal system to help people, to push for better laws and policies to prevent family caregiver discrimination in the first place, and to educate business leaders to change the way they think about and treat employees with care responsibilities. Lee has to be creative, because she and attorneys like her don’t have much to work with.”

Chapter 2 of Over Work is centered on WorkLife Law’s efforts on behalf of pregnant and caregiving workers, and examines the broader systems and beliefs that have put many workers in a bind of work-family conflict.
