With many thanks to The Schmidt Family Foundation for renewed support, WorkLife Law will continue advancing reproductive justice for farmworkers through our collaborative initiative Dar a Luz: Legal Rights for Farmworkers in Pregnancy and Postpartum. Continued support will allow WorkLife Law and the Central Coast Alliance United for a Sustainable Economy (CAUSE) to empower thousands of farmworking families.
Over the next year, WorkLife Law will maintain our free legal helpline for farmworkers, create resources for medical providers so they can support their pregnant and postpartum farmworking patients, and provide culturally-relevant Spanish resources for impacted workers explaining their rights in the workplace.
“Dar a Luz,” a commonly used idiom for “giving birth,” translates to “bring to light” – a metaphor for the project’s goal of raising awareness around the health needs and legal rights of farmworkers during pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing.
