WorkLife Law is excited to welcome two bright members to our team: Erin Lichtenstein as our Legal Extern and Westley Shaw as our Legal Service Funders Network Fellow.

As Legal Extern, Erin (she/her) will be working closely with our attorneys in all aspects of our work by researching law and policy; participating in strategy sessions; and contributing to articles, reports, and amicus briefs.

“I look forward to joining WorkLife Law’s efforts to enforce the rights of pregnant, nursing, and caregiving workers and to combat the discrimination and other challenges these workers too often face. In addition, the mentorship I receive from WLL’s team of expert attorneys will be invaluable as I move forward in my career.”

Erin Lichtenstein is a second-year law student at the University of Michigan Law School and an extern at the Center for WorkLife Law. She is passionate about defending workers’ rights and combating employment discrimination. During her first year in law school, she interned at the Worker Justice Center of New York and volunteered for the Civil Rights Litigation Clearinghouse, the Justice Union Rapid Response Group, and Empower Work.

As an LSFN Fellow, Westley (he/they) will support WorkLife Law’s capacity to retain a comprehensive and up to date understanding of current legal protections for caregivers and parents in their employment.

“I’m excited to join the team at WorkLife Law because I am eager to learn how we can use policy advocacy to advance worker protections and ensure family stability. WorkLife Law’s advancement of family protections in employment settings is an inspiring avenue to alleviate economic inequalities particularly faced by families of color. I am honored to be a part of this work to ensure families are able to work to meet their financial needs in this overburdened economy; and further safeguard family stability and enhance caregiver protection to strengthen community dependability as a whole.”

Westley Shaw is a recent graduate from UC Law, San Francisco. Westley has spent his educational career analyzing the ways that the legal system impacts families and their ability to grow and thrive. While earning his Juris Doctorate, Westley spent his summers supporting direct service non-profits in the Bay Area. At Bay Area Legal Aid (BALA), Westley’s support as the Youth Justice Law Clerk helped youth navigate resources available to those involved with the carceral state, and those facing homelessness.
